OUR SPEAKER, Ross Marston

Ross’s unique approach to cyber security involves working with CEOs, Business Owners and Leaders to give them the tools they need to harness Cyber Security in their business. He clearly shows participants that cyber is NOT a technical problem, hence, applying only a technical solution is not a good strategy.    Cyber Security is a whole of business issue and can only be solved with a whole of business approach.

His career has allowed him work with businesses ranging from Government and multi-nationals to SMBs, to design and implement bespoke cyber security strategies within their business.  His delivery style is very interactive, engaging, and littered with stories to clearly articulate his topic.

After graduating and working as a Surveyor in the engineering and development sectors for a period, Ross refocused his career to Network engineering and Cyber Security (InfoSec) in the late 1980s. He then went on to Consult with several Australian and multi-national mining companies (Including CRA, Rio Tinto, Blair Athol Coal, and Freeport McMoran), as well as various consulting roles with Australian and US government departments, as a Network Engineer and InfoSec.

In 2014 Ross saw the need for a distinct Cyber Security consultancy, separate from the operational service business he has run for 30 years.  Hence, BIS (Business Intelligence Security) was born.

His driving passion is to help business owners and leaders to build resilient businesses.

Comments from TEC presentations:

  • "Great presentation style.  Listens to questions and replies to them, not his own agenda.  Not averse to recommending and was not continually selling his services."

  • "Good, practical working knowledge of cyber security. Very good relational style. Small business focus. Practical examples."

  • "Reinforced the importance of regular identification and assessment of risk in my business."

  • "Great identification of the risk to organisations and use of examples."

  • "I thought I understood the risks but it was clear that I didn’t. Extremely valuable and very well presented."
